Program Benefits
The Provincial Youth Outreach Worker Program is an early intervention program that connects youth with an outreach team consisting of a Youth Outreach Worker (YOW) and an Enhanced Youth Outreach Worker (EYOW).
The Outreach Workers serve “hard-to-reach” youth ages 12 to 21 and their families connecting them with services in Malton and across the Region of Peel. Youth are deemed “at risk” if they are residing in a priority neighbourhood or neighbourhood improvement area, have a developmental disability/dual diagnosis and/or identify as 2SLGBTQ+.
The YOW’s focus is building relationships, assessing needs, and raising youth’s awareness of available community services, while engaging them in community programs and making appropriate service referrals.
The CYOW collaborates with youth to offer individual counselling and case management support that is tailored to each youth’s individual goals, focusing on immediate needs and referring to long-term support services in the community. Through this form of support, the CYOW will work with youth to improve their mental health and well-being.
Services are mobile and community-based.
