It’s Official: Malton Neighbourhood Services is now My Neighbourhood Services!

MNS as an organization has been providing events, programs, services, and more to the community for over 45 years. We have been continuously striving to serve all members of the community through our dedication to the growth and prosperity of those who reside in Peel Region.

MNS: A Brief History

MNS began in 1975 in a small basement office in Westwood Mall. Carole Berry, who founded the organization, was our very first staff and Executive Director. Back then, the organization was referred to as “Malton Community Council” and was primarily a settlement organization. However, in 1978, it was officially registered as a charity and became known as Malton Neighbourhood Services.

From its humble beginnings to current day, MNS has continuously grown and expanded. By 1988, MNS had outgrown its small basement office, and moved to our second home at 7200 Goreway Drive. MNS began adopting more and more programs such as our annual Youth summer camp, now known as Camp Caboose, which began in July of 1994.

MNS first expanded to Brampton in 2003 in response to the community’s growing need for Ontario Early Years (now known as EarlyON) programs. In Brampton, we now offer LINC classes and Settlement services, as well as three EarlyON locations, Cottrelle, Sunny Meadows and Vodden.

The following year, the organization recognized the need for an even larger space. As a result of this, on October 1st 2004, came the unveiling of our new site at Malton Community Centre (3540 Morning Star Drive), which became the organization’s Head Office that we know and love today. We also opened our Malton EarlyON in the very same community centre. At this point in 2004, MNS had a total of 43 full-time staff and 39 part-time staff.

Expanding our Programs and Services

We are now proud to operate two locations in Malton, and three locations in Brampton. In addition to our offices and sites, our dedicated Settlement Workers in Schools staff are placed in 12 schools across Peel to further assist newcomer students and their families.

We have expanded in response to the changing needs of our communities. Including, but not limited to, Black Family Support, Child and Family centres, Employment support, Seniors’ programs, Women’s support, Youth programs, and much more.

Our staff are dedicated, helpful, passionate, and ready to assist anyone who walks through our doors.

Looking Ahead as My Neighbourhood Services

This new name will represent all the hard work and efforts we have made over the years to strive towards a prospering, healthy community. Not only in Malton, but across Peel Region. It opens the doors for more growth in the future, and the opportunity for expansion in areas that need it most.

My Neighbourhood Services embodies the continued hard work of our community partners, funders, staff, and volunteers who have dedicated themselves to building a healthier, stronger, and more inclusive Peel Region.

We are so excited to continue helping and supporting the community. We will continue to foster growth and show our commitment to all. We are looking forward to the next steps in MNS’s journey and cannot wait to see what the future holds.

From all of us at My Neighbourhood Services: thank you for being part of our neighbourhood.
