Program Details
Welcome to Malton Neighbourhood Services’ Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS) Program!
The Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS) program, funded by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), recognizes the challenges faced by new immigrants, particularly newcomer students and their families, as they navigate the Canadian education system. In collaboration with the Peel District School Board, Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board, and IRCC, Malton Neighbourhood Services is committed to facilitating a smooth transition for newcomers into the school and wider community.
Our dedicated SWIS team provides a range of essential services to support newcomers in their journey. Our settlement workers offer guidance and assistance to help participants understand and integrate into the education system, thereby accelerating the settlement process. Located within schools, our SWIS workers are readily accessible to provide information, settlement services, and referrals to local community agencies.
At Malton Neighbourhood Services, we understand the importance of effective communication and cultural sensitivity. Therefore, our services are available in multiple languages, including Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, Caribbean dialects, and Arabic.
