The political process can seem a bit overwhelming:  with candidates knocking on your door and asking for your support, you may not fully understand a party’s position on a specific issue or who is running in your area.

The Malton Community Building Project Network co-hosted a Mississauga-Malton Federal election debate with the Malton Black Development Association.  The MCBP Network focuses on promoting civic engagement in the Malton community as it is in line with the group’s priority, “To Connect and Inform.”  The event was held on Tuesday October 15 at the Malton Community Centre.

Community members were invited to come out to meet the candidates running in their riding and to ask them questions on their party’s platform policies.  Affordable housing, education, climate change, health care and community safety topics were heavily discussed during the evening.

Candidates addressed the close to capacity crowd and informed them on how they would best represent them if elected as the MP for Mississauga-Malton.

The following candidates present were:

  • Christina Porter-Green Party
  • Navdeep Bains- Liberal Party
  • Nikki Clarke- NDP Party
  • Prudence Buchanan- UPC Party and;
  • Tahir Gora -PCC Party.

The MCBP Network and Malton Neighbourhood Services will like to congratulate Navdeep Bains for being elected as the MP for Mississauga-Malton.
