2025 MNS Scholarship Winners:

The MNS Scholarship Gala honours students who exemplify academic achievement, leadership, and a commitment to making a lasting impact in their communities. The 2025 recipients have excelled in their studies, despite facing and overcoming significant personal, social, and systemic challenges. These students have remained steadfast in their pursuit of education. Their perseverance, resilience, and unwavering dedication remind us of the incredible potential within every young person when given the opportunity to thrive.

We are proud to recognize the 2025 My Neighbourhood Services Scholarship recipients:

Bryan Anthony Barwual

Bryan Anthony Barwual overcame early academic and health-related challenges. After relocating to Canada, he adjusted to a new environment and steadily improved academically. Bryan is now a Theology student at Liberty University. He also volunteers regularly, works part-time, and has gained experience in legal services. 

Hargun Kaur

Hargun Kaur is currently attending the University of Toronto, majoring in Political Science and French. She aspires to attend Law School and work toward reforming the Canadian education system. Having overcome personal challenges, Hargun is a strong advocate for accessibility, health management, and equity in education. She has volunteered extensively in her community, including over 100 hours as a French Reading Buddy, supporting newcomer and low-income students through Starts with One, serving as a Deputy Returning Officer for over 81,000 electors, and contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Agenda via the Reach Alliance.

Kallai Thomas

Kallai Thomas is studying Experimental Animation at OCAD University and aspires to become a professional animator and storyteller. He has balanced academics, athletics, and leadership while overcoming personal challenges. Kallai is a dedicated mentor and volunteer in schools, sports, and community programs, drawing inspiration from his mother’s resilience and faith.

Kehinde Ojo

Kenny Ojo has consistently strived for academic excellence, graduating high school with Honours and earning multiple scholarships for post-secondary studies. He continues to demonstrate focus and resilience in his university studies despite various challenges.

Shiniah Mark

Shiniah Mark is a Political Science major aspiring to become a family lawyer. She has overcome financial hardship and mental health challenges through resilience and support. Shiniah serves as President of United Caribbean Islands and Vice President of York Federation of Students. She is a dedicated mentor in Jane and Finch, advocating for equity, diversity, and inclusion, guided by her grandmother’s encouragement.
